All students who are currently enrolled full-time are eligible for health services. Routine health care for most health issues from sinus infections to pap smears can be obtained at the Student Health Center. Outpatient visits with the nurse or the physician at the center are free of charge. The cost of in-house laboratory tests, supplies and certain medications are billed directly to the student's account through the Controller's Office. The college does not participate with private insurance plans. However, upon request, a student may be given a claim form to submit to private insurance for reimbursement.
In addition to regular wellness check-ups and sick visits, the Student Health Center provides:
Allergy Clinic The Health Center gives allergy injections Monday through Friday from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. to students who provide precise instructions from their allergists. Students are responsible for their own medication schedules and re-orders, and must remain on-site for 30 minutes after each injection.
Study Abroad Physicals and Travel Vaccines Some study abroad programs require proof of physical exams and/or immunizations prior to travel, and both are available by appointment at the Health Center. Learn more.
Sharps Disposal The Student Health Center provides free sharps containers for all students who use insulin or other medications administered via injection. Students may visit the health center anytime during normal weekday hours, 7:30 a.m. - 9:30 p.m., to pick up or drop off their sharps containers. Free, portable sharps shuttles also are available.
Meningitis Vaccines Although the vaccine is not required to attend Davidson College, it is recommended for freshmen living in residence halls or for other students who want to lower their risk of the disease. The vaccine is available at the health center. Learn more.
Nutrition Counseling A registered dietician provides nutrition counseling by appointment. Call the health center, 704-894-2300, to schedule an appointment.
Vision and Dental The health center does not provide vision or dental care. There are several professional offices nearby, some within walking distance of the campus, that provide these services at the students' expense.
