Gender & Sexuality Groups

Davidson provides a supportive environment in which individuals can explore interests, share experiences, and learn from each other. To that end, the college supports a number of student-led organizations that promote advocacy and acceptance of its students, faculty, and staff as well as members of the greater community.

All Girls Allowed

The group works with the nonprofit organization All Girls Allowed to advocate for and raise awareness about people affected by China's one-child policy. Group members raise funds to support women seeking refuge during pregnancy and those who decide to raise baby girls.

Davidson Women's Committee

The Davidson Women's Committee is a resource for men and women as parts of a co-educational campus. The committee hosts all-school luncheons, guest lecturers, theater productions, discussions, fundraisers and service events focused on gender expression on campus and issues affecting women. For more information, contact Georgia Ringle.

For Loving Yourself (FLY)

FLY aims to empower students by promoting positive self-image, mental and physical wellness, and healthy attitudes towards sex and gender. The group hosts discussions, guest lectures and film events as well as service events.

Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA)

The Gay-Straight Alliance includes students, faculty and staff and represents members of the Davidson community who identify themselves as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning (GLBTQ), along with straight allies. The group advocates for increased awareness and acceptance of GLBTQ issues and aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for all GLBTQ individuals in the school community.

Latina Empowerment, Achievement and Development Program (LEAD)

The LEAD Program, in partnership with the nearby Ada Jenkins Center, aims to empower Latina women in northern Mecklenburg County to overcome gender and racial biases, language barriers, and other challenges they may face as they enter the workforce.

Women's Leadership Conference Planning Committee

The Women's Leadership Conference Planning Committee works to provide women in the college and the community with tools to become better leaders and with opportunities to share their experiences as women. The group also plans the annual Women's Leadership Conference.
