Davidson College's statement to reaffirm existing policies and practices regarding Davidson's commitment to diversity:
Davidson College understands that cultivating a broadly diverse community is crucial to our educational mission and to our foundational commitment to leadership and service. We seek out applications from talented faculty, staff and students from different cultures, ethnicities, races, religions, sexual orientations, genders, ages, national origins, socio-economic backgrounds, and physical abilities. Our policies do not discriminate based on race, color, gender, national origin, religion, age, sexual orientation, or disability. We welcome and strive to foster mutual respect among all members of our community. We explicitly assert our commitment to our lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) faculty, staff, students, and alumni and to their families.
This commitment to our LGBT community members is reflected in Davidson's non-discrimination policies, our benefits plans, our diversity statement, and our student Code of Responsibility. We believe that these policies are crucial to the realization of our aspirations and that they enable us to recruit and retain the highest caliber colleagues and students. Davidson reaffirms our commitment to these policies and we stand with all who seek a more just and humane world.
Davidson College is dedicated to intellectual and cultural growth in the broadest sense. Davidson prides itself on a student body made up of the nation's most talented young people, chosen not only for their academic promise, but also for their character. View the Class of 2017 Profile.
Students have opportunities to explore the complexities of an increasingly interconnected world through academic coursework. Each student must fulfill a cultural diversity requirement by taking a course designated by the faculty as having a significant component or focus directed at the cultural experience of a group differing from that of the dominant culture of the United States or Europe. The college recently added the Africana Studies major and offers degrees in Ethnic Studies and Gender and Sexuality Studies.
