Rush KA

Every fall, we here at the Sigma chapter of the Kappa Alpha Order strive to demonstrate to incoming freshmen what life is like here at KA. It is a process that is now in its one hundred and twentieth year. Many of the men that have come through our rush process to become brothers of KA have gone on to do great things. Some of our notable alumni include such statesmen and Davidson benefactors as John Belk and Dean Rusk.

Today, our history of leadership remains unchanged. Our brothers currently include two class presidents, the chairman of the Honor Council, and the editor of Libertas. Nearly half of our brothers are varsity athletes. We also run arguably one of the most well planned and comprehensive service efforts of any student organization at Davidson College. Last year we raised nearly ten thousand dollars for MDA. This year we hope to do even more.

We expect freshmen to see, as we all did, that KA is the best and most active fraternity at Davidson College. We take pride in saying that, not only because of our trophies and awards, but because of our brotherhood. It is the friendships and bonds that exist among us which give the Sigma chapter of Kappa Alpha Order its unique character and personality.

We at Sigma invest a great deal of time and energy into being responsible brothers; we expect new initiates to be ready to do the same. Through our new member education program, new members are given the opportunity for the development of leadership abilities, a sense of responsibility, and mature thought and action in each individual. Through this program the members of each pledge class grow as individuals, often becoming a solid group of brothers who remain friends for life.

We at Sigma do not wish to inundate freshmen with trite messages of fraternal bonding that donÕt hold up to close inspection. Our goal is to nurture the collective growth of our members not through conformity but through the expansion of oneÕs individual goals. We truly believe that the bonds shared among our brothers are unique. For freshmen considering Patterson Court and the fraternity system at Davidson, we encourage them to come down and visit the house in order to get to know us a little better. Nonetheless, we urge freshmen to take some time to explore all options the Patterson Court system has to offer. The decision of whether or not to participate in Greek life at Davidson can be a difficult one to make. We want to help freshmen make the right choice.

Fraternally Yours,

Brook Andrews
