Many students consider law an appealing career option. Competition for the best jobs in the legal
profession, however, is fierce and a sound preparation for law school is more important now than ever.
With its emphasis on small classes, continued practice in writing skills, and a broad liberal
arts curriculum, Davidson College prepares students well for law school.
Students may join the Pre-Law Society at any point in their academic career. The purpose of the Society is to help students learn more about the study and practice of law. The Society meets several times each semester, sponsors speakers and panel discussions throughout the year, and organizes occasional field trips to law schools and other special events.
One of the most popular programs each year features the Young Lawyers Panel. Recent Davidson graduates participate in a panel discussion regarding the realities of law school and the legal profession. These alumni have been helpful in counseling Davidson students about the practice of law.
Davidson graduates practicing law throughout the country are also eager to help prospective law students by inviting them for short visits or for summer work experience.
Other programs have included Seniors Going to Law School Panel, Law School Financial Aid Session, and Davidson Alumni Law Panel. The Pre-Law Society has brought judges, the President of the North Carolina Bar Association, and nationally known Pre-Law advisors to speak. The society is run by an executive board composed of six students, two faculty advisors, and a Career Services representative.
