Student Organizations

Davidson provides a supportive environment in which individuals can explore interests, share experiences, and learn from each other. To that end, the college supports a number of student-led organizations that promote advocacy and acceptance of its students, faculty, and staff as well as members of the greater community.

1972

1972 is Davidson's women's action organization focused on fostering conversations and efforts surrounding issues of gender expression and those that primarily affect women both on campus and in the larger global community.

Queers & Allies (Q&A)

Queers and Allies is the main organization at Davidson College with the fundamental aim of enhancing our college's understanding and acceptance of issues related to gender and sexuality. Through various events, Q&A advocates for increasing awareness and celebrating the diversity of the LGBTQQUIAAP (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning, undecided, intersex, asexual, allies, pansexual) population at Davidson College in all aspects of campus life. Q&A also works to provide a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all LGBTQQUIAAP members of the Davidson College community.

Queer Mentorship Program

The Queer Mentorship Program pairs incoming first year students with queer sophomore, junior, or senior Davidson College students. The program recognizes that the transition to college is a hard time, especially so for queer and/or questioning first year students. The organization hopes that a mentor can help assist and guide students through their acclimation to Davidson College and create a more welcoming community at Davidson College.

THE VISIBILITY PROJECT

The organization brings to light the intersection between LGBTQ+ and faith beliefs within the Davidson community.

Women's Leadership Conference Planning Committee

The Women's Leadership Conference Planning Committee works to provide women in the college and the community with tools to become better leaders and with opportunities to share their experiences as women. The group also plans the annual Women's Leadership Conference.

You Are Not A Stranger Here (YANASH)

YANASH is a confidential student group created by students for any and every Davidson College student to seek queer community without the pressures and fears of coming out. The organization fosters an inclusive environment for attendees to seek information about queer identities, gender identities, and sexualities in group and peer support networks.
