When applying to Davidson, you may be able to earn credit and placement consideration for International Baccalaureate exams and college-level work done in secondary school.

Advanced Placement

If you have completed college-level work in secondary school and wish to apply for placement or credit at Davidson, you should take the appropriate AP exams.

Academic credit will normally be granted for a score of 4 or 5 on an AP exam, for a maximum of four course credits.

In the event you have taken more than one exam in the same subject (English, French, German, Spanish, and Latin), a maximum of one course credit will be granted. Davidson does not award sophomore class standing for AP credit.

International Baccalaureate

Davidson recognizes the IB Program and A-level Examinations for admission purposes and placement. Placement decisions are made by the Registrar in consultation with the appropriate department chair.

Cambridge International AS and A-Levels

Davidson College awards credit for A*, A, B, and C grades on AS and A-Level areas. In many cases, the credit transfers with the same name and number as a Davidson course and serves as a prerequisite to other courses.

Students entering prior to 2019 with qualifying grades in these courses should contact the Registrar’s Office for assistance.
