Bremer German Scholarship

For students keenly interested in the study of German.

As an incoming student who has demonstrated an interest and exceptional ability in German, you could be eligible to receive the Bremer German Scholarship. Established by C. Christopher Bremer '60, this $5,000 scholarship is awarded every four years to one student in the incoming class.

Recipients are not required to major in German.

The scholarship is renewable for the recipient's remaining three years at Davidson as long as the student maintains the required grade point average, makes expected progress toward graduation, and successfully completes at least one course in the German Department per year. In the junior and senior years, that course must be either offered through our Berlin program or a 400-level seminar course.

For information about the German Studies Department, please email Department Chair Prof. Scott Denham at

Application Process

You must first be an applicant to Davidson College in order to submit your Bremer German Scholarship Application.

In addition to your application for admission and your scholarship application, you must submit:

  • A letter discussing your interest in the award and your experiences and involvement in the study of German;
