Davidson Volunteer Week

Davidson Volunteer Week

At their 45th Reunion in June 2013, the Davidson College Class of 1968 kicked off a new civic engagement initiative, Davidson Engaged, which aims to further the college's mission to encourage graduates to lead lives of leadership and service. In the spring 2014, the committee worked with the Center for Civic Engagement and the Alumni Relations office to send out a survey to understand how and where alumni are currently engaged in their communities and to gauge interest in the development of an alumni-focused civic engagement initiative.

One result of the survey findings was the creation of Davidson Volunteer Week. During this week, Davidson alumni around the country are encouraged to participate in community and volunteer engagement. The Center for Civic Engagement will also host its student service week at the same time.

In 2015, over 200 alumni, parents and friends participated in 23 projects across the country. 2016 brought 70 percent growth in participation as 342 alumni, parents and friends volunteered in 42 projects across 26 chapters. Louisville (12 percent), San Antonio (9 percent), Charleston (9 percent), Norfolk (7 percent) and Houston (5 percent) had the highest participation rate among chapters.

Dates for 2017 Davidson Volunteer Week will be posted here when they are available. For more information about the DavidsonServes initiative or Davidson Volunteer Week, email or call 704-894-2919.
