German Studies major Lucy Flournoy '11 will talk about doing graduate work in Physical Theater at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany. Physical Theatre is an independent, interdisciplinary theatre art form in which the body serves as the performer’s main means of expression. Its physicality can be rooted in dance, contemporary circus, acrobatics and/or mime, as well as in masked theatre, puppetry, and/or object theatre. Physical theatre often incorporates elements of classical theatre, but may also draw inspiration from the Live Art and Performance Art genres. It includes a strong emphasis on the creation of new work, and typically solo artists or ensembles develop performance material using a variety of improvisational methods that value the artistic input of every member.
