Oct 29: COVID Update

Message from the Core COVID Response Team:

Students have done a great job of paying attention to their own symptoms. You’re aware of what to look for and have been testing at the appropriate time. Thank you. With this experience and demonstrated care by students, we are going to pause use of the symptom tracker by students. If circumstances change, we will reactivate its use. We appreciate those who have been diligent about using it.

Employees should continue using the symptom tracker. We have seen a few more breakthrough cases among employees, which is not surprising given that they spend more time off campus in the communities around Davidson. The symptom tracker has been critical in helping employees be self-aware and in prompting them to stay away from campus before eventually receiving a positive diagnosis of COVID. We appreciate employees’ continued and disciplined use of this important tool. Thank you.

Cases

We have two active cases among students.

Vaccinations

Employees now are at 98.5 percent vaccinated. Students remain at 99 percent.

Tests

We continue to test the same group of exempt students. Testing is available to all students seven days a week. Students need to contact Student Health and Well-Being between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, to arrange a test. On weekends, students should go to the Tomlinson conference room between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Booster shots

We encourage you to consult your doctor about the possibility of a booster shot and which one. Shots are available at CVS on Main Street and other outlets in the area.

Stay safe and Happy Halloween!

We saw a lot of smiles from students and families alike last weekend. Thank you for making Wildcat Weekend a terrific gathering and for keeping up the safety efforts that enabled us to hold such an event and to have a close-to-normal semester.

Thanks to your work, our COVID prevention efforts continue to pay off, and we have little news to share. In light of that, we will reduce the frequency of these updates but remain prepared to increase communication if circumstances require that.

Oct 15: COVID Update

Message from the Core COVID Response Team:

We hope you enjoy Wildcat Weekend, and we appreciate the help of all visitors in maintaining the safe environment you have helped build on campus.

Thank you to the handful of folks who attended our drop-in discussion on Tuesday. We have appreciated the opportunity to share news of our progress this semester and to answer your questions during these sessions. The very small number in attendance this week guides us to discontinue the drop-ins, but we will be prepared to restart them if circumstances warrant. Dean McCrae will continue drop-ins for students (the dates and times will be posted in The Crier).

Vaccinations

Our vaccination rates remain at 99 percent for students and employees.

Message from the Core COVID Response Team:

We know that many of you are off campus this weekend, so we will keep our note brief:

  • We have no positive cases among students.
  • If you are traveling this weekend and believe there is a need for you to test after you return to campus, we encourage you to wait until at least Wednesday in order to get an accurate test result.

Have a great weekend!
