Adam Ferraz, Davidson College class of 2020, majored in English and minored in Film and Media Studies.
Adam worked for Technology and Innovation during the summer of 2019 and recently started his new position as the T&I Web Hosting & Accessibility Fellow.
Adam describes his new role in simple terms: “Basically, my role is to assist faculty and staff who have a Davidson hosted website by making sure each website is in compliance with accessibility standards and bringing them up to date if needed.”
What do you hope to gain from this experience?
Adam acknowledges that there are a lot of skills to gain from this experience and even some that will translate to other careers as well. He adds, “I don’t have a background in accessibility, so I want to learn more about it and build on the skills that I already have.”
Although he’s only been on the team for a week, Adam is looking forward to some upcoming projects. The team has already begun categorizing websites that need attention and hopes to implement these changes soon.
What advice would you give students who are considering applying for a fellow position?
Adam’s advice to students who intend to apply for a fellowship position is that there is something to be gained from every job experience. “Focus on how your previous roles have prepared you for each particular job you apply to. Also, don’t be intimidated if you haven’t had much prior technology experience—the team is very welcoming and knowledgeable, and they want you to succeed.”
