Research and teaching interests sit at the intersection of Latin American history and Africana Studies, with focus on Afro-Latin American and Caribbean history, politics and culture. Author of Antiracism in Cuba: The Unfinished Revolution, Benson argues that ideas, stereotypes, and discriminatory practices relating to racial difference persisted despite major efforts by the Cuban state to generate social equality.
