In an op-ed, Frontis W. Johnston Professor of Economics Clark Ross illustrates the challenges facing the U.S. economy. Drawing on the critically acclaimed book, "The Rise and Fall of American Growth" by Northwestern University economics professor Robert Gordon, Ross says that the explosive economic growth the country experienced from 1890-1970 might have been a singular phenomenon that no amount of change can restore.
Ross writes: "Can Donald Trump or anyone else provide the fuel to recharge the U.S. economy? Major challenges exist."
Gordon will deliver the annual Cornelson Distinguished Lecture in Economics at 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 29, in Tyler-Tallman Hall.
