Art Students Post Virtual Gallery of Works by Artists of the African Diaspora

Visiting Assistant Professor of Art Samantha Noel led seven students during the fall semester in a seminar titled "Art of the African Diaspora," which explored the art history of people of African descent.

In the course of their study, Kayla Cooper '13, Cidney Michelle Holliday '15, Tathiana Marcelin '13, Jamela Peterson '13, Katie Ramseur '13, Justin Stafford '12, and Sarah Thornton '13 each wrote research papers considering how the movements of people through the Diaspora impacted art making in various geographical, cultural, and socio-political situations.

They also picked one work of art from their papers to include in a virtual exhibition titled "Roots and Routes: Art of the African Diaspora." They presented their work at a campus forum, and posted to the website.
