Re-Thinking Higher Ed: Global Platform Supports Design Pilot

Students work on brainstorming during the “ideas” phase.

A group of Davidson students this fall worked with the Open IDEO global platform to pilot a solutions-based curriculum that teaches design thinking and emphasizes not just what you know, but what you do with what you know.

They partnered with Middlebury College to pilot the new human-centered design curriculum, and tackled the question: How might parents in low income communities ensure children thrive in their first five years?

The Davidson Design Fellows (the pilot group) chose to focus on Charlotte communities, and worked through the phases of solutions-based problem solving, including research, ideas/brainstorming and refinement.
