Target's announcement last week that it would allow employees and customers to use restrooms that correspond with their gender identities placed the retailer in the national spotlight and drew responses from all sides. Davidson alumnus and Yale Law Professor Bill Eskridge '73, in an interview with the New York Times, discusses the roles corporations assume in such national debates.

"The policies generally do not cost the corporations anything or very much, and they create some degree of good will," he said.
