Udall Scholarships

Background

Usually the foundation expects to award 50 scholarships of up to $5,000 and 50 honorable mentions to sophomore and junior level college students committed to careers related to the environment, tribal public policy, or Native American health care.

Scholarships are offered in any of three categories:

  • To students who have demonstrated commitment to careers related to the environment.
  • To Native American and Alaska Native students who have demonstrated commitment to careers related to tribal public policy.
  • To Native American and Alaska Native students who have demonstrated commitment to careers related to Native health care.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Up to $5,000 for tuition, room and board, or other educational expenses.
  • Four-day Udall Scholars Orientation in Tucson, Arizona to meet with other Scholars, elected officials, environmental and tribal leaders. All Scholars are required to attend this August event. The Foundation will arrange travel from the Scholar's home or school; lodging and meals are provided.
  • Access to a network of environmental, Native American health and tribal policy professionals through the Udall alumni listserv.
  • Honorable Mentions have the opportunity to join the alumni listserv.

Campus Deadline

By the last Friday in January, the Graduate Fellowships Committee will need a completed application form, a transcript, and the essay. No recommendations at this point. There is detailed information about the application process and what makes for successful application essays on the Udall Undergraduate Scholarship website.

If the committee members decide that you should get one of the college's nominations, we'll release the application to you and you fill in the information on line, and request letters of recommendation. All that would have to be completed by the second Friday in February.
