Job Shadowing Externship Program

Offered during spring and summer, our Job Shadowing Externship Program provides one-day and multi-day shadowing experiences that allow students to spend time with alumni or parent volunteers at work. Through observation and conversation, participating students have the opportunity to learn more about professions, receive career-related advice, and reflect on the ways in which their liberal arts education can prepare them for life after Davidson.

More than 200 hosts register for the program each year, which has allowed more than 100 students to complete nearly 200 different shadowing experiences each summer.

Feedback from Previous Experiences

"I think it's wonderful that Davidson does this–I wish I'd had the opportunity when I was on campus! Both of my students were delightful. I enjoyed the days with them and my coworkers were similarly impressed. I love the opportunity to connect and build relationships with Davidson students who I wouldn't otherwise know." - Host

"I really enjoyed it and it really exposed me to career fields I was uncertain about pursuing. I also found it really helpful learning about their own individual Davidson experience and how it helped shape them into who they are now." - Student

"It was great to learn about new career paths that I had not yet considered in my job search. Because of this opportunity, I am now able to search specifically for positions more suited to my tastes." - Student
