Arts and Science Council

Organization Overview

The Arts and Science Council (ASC) is the community's chief advocate for arts, science, history and heritage. Through its work it serves as a gatherer and steward of public and private community resources, an investor of those resources in the cultural sector and community, and as the strategic planner for the community's cultural sector and the public art agent for the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. Its mission is to build appreciation, participation and support for the arts, science, history and heritage in Charlotte-Mecklenburg.

Position Description

Davidson Fellow-Cultural Education Special Projects: This position assists the Arts & Science Council vice president, education by supporting ASC's relations with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, other PreK-12 educational institutions, community cultural partners, local colleges and universities, and other community-based partners. This individual manages and assists with the following:

  • Supports the ASC education team by providing logistical and managerial support in the area of special projects
  • Assists with project budget tracking and requisition submissions
  • Assists in maintaining project records
  • Maintains current data and creates data representation associated with projects
  • Manages ASC advocacy strategy relevant to Special Projects
  • Maintains comprehensive database of contact information
  • Plans and implements communication strategies aligned with ASC marketing and communications team
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of educational events for stakeholders
  • Plans and manages volunteer advocacy efforts
  • Assists ASC grant writer with applications and reporting for city and county funding as well as other agency funding
  • Researches and assists with other programming as assigned
