The college provides self-serve laundry facilities at no cost for the entire student body.
There are about 150 high efficiency washers and dryers available for student use located in residence hall laundry rooms across campus. All laundry rooms remain available 24/7 during the school year and are accessible only with a valid college ID.
For questions regarding laundry service or machines, contact Laundry Services Manager Derek Cole at firstname.lastname@example.org or 704-894-2351.
High efficiency machines conserve energy and water and reduce the amount of detergent needed. Using conventional detergent creates a high volume of suds that will trip sensors on the machines and turn them off. For these reasons, you must use laundry detergent intended for high efficiency machines.
All laundry rooms will be equipped with the LaundryView application. This Web app allows you to find available washers and dryers at any location on campus. Once you have started a load of laundry, you can check LaundryView at any time to see if your cycle is complete or how many minutes remain.
LaundryView is particularly useful at peak usage times, when you might have to wait for a machine. The number of machines and different campus locations should keep wait times to a minimum, but inevitably there will be higher- and lower-usage times. Throughout the year the laundry services manager will communicate the high/low usage times to students based on LaundryView data, so you can use that information to plan accordingly.
The LaundryView app also allows the college to identify malfunctioning machines quickly.
Beginning in August 2015, the college will provide drop-off/pick-up laundry service at the Lula Bell Houston Laundry building for dry cleaning, knits, large items (like comforters and sleeping bags), and dress shirts. These services will be handled by a third party off-campus at competitive, pay-per-piece rates.
The laundry services manager regularly visits all self-service laundry sites and remains available as a resource for students regarding machines or laundry advice. Additionally, the leasing company that provides our machines makes weekly service visits to campus to maintain them.
With 150 machines in regular use, there will always be some machines that are out of order, and we make every effort to identify and repair these promptly. The vast majority of issues require a very simple reset.
Please notify Derek Cole, laundry services manager, at email@example.com or 704-894-2351, any time you encounter a malfunctioning machine so it can be repaired as quickly as possible.
If you are not in the laundry room when your dryer cycle ends, another student may choose to remove your clothes so that he or she may use the dryer.
Each laundry room is equipped with cubbies into which students may place left clothing, keeping all items together.
If you leave clothing items unattended in a laundry room for more than a day, they may be removed. Laundry Services staff will remove abandoned clothes regularly, and after a period of time will donate them to local aid agencies.
