Areas of Expertise

  • Number theory
  • Ergodic theory

Background

My research is in ergodic theory and number theory, particularly using geodesic flows on modular surfaces to describe various continued fraction maps. Continued fractions are ways to represent real numbers as 1/(a+1/(b+1/(c+...))). They appear in various areas of mathematics, from number theory (studying patterns within number systems) to dynamical systems (studying how systems change over time) to geometry.

I enjoy working with students on related research projects. I also enjoy getting kids excited about mathematics through fun hands on math activities. Previously, I co-founded and ran the Summer Illinois Math Camp, which fosters enthusiasm for math by introducing students to proofs and applications of math.
