Background

I am a chemist who teaches chemistry for non-science majors. I studied at Rutgers University, University of Delaware, and University of Illinois at Chicago. My teaching interests include patination and anodizing metals, natural and synthetic dyes, history of photography and chemistry of antiques. I have published articles in Sculpture, FiberArts, American Artist, Hand Papermaking, Journal of the Electrochemical Society and Journal of Chemical Education. I received a grant from the architectural firm of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill to investigate The Effect of Atmosphere on Copper Exteriors, with Myung Choe.

I enjoy the Mint Museum, antique malls, the Y, the Carolina shag, and Blowing Rock.
