Civic Engagement Council

The Civic Engagement Council is an umbrella organization for more than 25 student-led service organizations. The CEC executive board supports the work of the groups in addition to offering campus-wide events and programming during National Volunteer Week.

Access to Success

Access to Success empowers youth and their communities to achieve positive change through Christian-based athletic and educational programs in Nigeria. A2S works year-round to fully fund and support the Gospel Ministries Bible Church and free school in Benin City, Nigeria, the hometown of A2S founder and former Davidson basketball player Andrew Lovedale ‘09. These efforts include fundraising and awareness events.  

Ada Cooks

Ada Cooks works at the Ada Jenkins Center and designed to improve health through nutrition education and cooking classes. Ada Cooks offers free weekly cooking classes for adults in both English and Spanish and for children in the LEARN Works program that simplifies the cooking process in a fun, hands-on environment.


Volunteers are paired with senior citizens in the Davidson community. They sponsor monthly programs that facilitate relationship between students and senior citizens.

Alternative Breaks

Volunteers participate in student-led service trips over the fall and spring breaks. In cooperation with service partners throughout the Southeast, students work on and learn about issues related to the environment, homelessness, affordable housing, and sustainability.

Amnesty International

Amnesty International is a global movement of people fighting injustice, promoting human rights and educating the campus and raising awareness on human rights violations around the world through newsletters, discussion group meetings, speakers, and petition signing.

Backpack Buddies

Backpack Buddies focuses on battling hunger among low-income elementary school children. With schools providing breakfast and lunch during the week, Backpack Buddies' goal is to provide food over the weekend to low-income children who attend Allenbrook Elementary School in Charlotte.

Be The Match On Campus (Project Life)

Be The Match On Campus (BTMOC) aims to increase the number of potential donors on the Be The Match registry, the largest and most diverse cell registry in the world. Volunteers raise awareness about the importance of bone marrow donations and work to raise funds through Tulip Days and the Ben & Jerry's Vermonster Challenge.

Believing Everyone Should Try (BEST)

Believing Everyone Should Try (BEST) seeks to break down barriers between Davidson College and special needs communities through dance and physical activity. BEST also hopes to raise awareness about special needs-related issues amongst the student body.  

Buddy System

The Buddy System is an organization devoted to working with children with special needs. We seek to help children with special needs by interacting with them in structured activities. We hope to provide these children with a positive young adult influence that will help them for years to come. We also hope to raise awareness about special-needs related issues amongst the student body.

Building Tomorrow

The mission of Building Tomorrow is trifold: (1) To educate the Davidson College community and the surrounding community of the town of Davidson regarding issues relating to vulnerable youth in Uganda; (2) To raise funds to build a primary school for children in Uganda and (3) To build lasting relationships between the Davidson College community and the Uganda community where the Building Tomorrow Academy sponsored by Davidson College will be built.

Colleges Against Cancer

Colleges Against Cancer (CAC) focuses on cancer prevention, education, and advocacy work. This chapter is affiliated with a nationwide collaboration of students dedicated to eliminating cancer by initiating and supporting programs of the American Cancer Society. CAC plans and executes Relay For Life, a large-scale fundraising event for the American Cancer Society.

Community Free Clinic

Volunteers assist with pharmacy and translating needs. The clinic provides free healthcare services for uninsured adults in and around the Concord area. Dinner is provided for volunteers.

Davidson Nonprofit Consulting (DNC)

Davidson Nonprofit Consulting (DNC) is an organization that aims to pair talented college students with local nonprofit organizations and seeks to accelerate nonprofit success by empowering talented students with knowledge, training, and hands-on consulting experience.

Davidson Refugee Support

Davidson Refugee Support's mission is to encourage the resilience of refugees resettled in Charlotte and to raise awareness about refugees in our community. They raise awareness through community events, ESL and nutrition classes, the Syria Awareness Series and more.

Ending Poverty in Charlotte (EPIC)

This organization aims to connect students to homeless neighbors at Charlotte's Urban Ministry Center through a variety of avenues from relationships to advocacy, and addressing physical and emotional needs. Students accomplish this by regularly volunteering at the center, hosting events on campus to bring together the student body and homeless neighbors, and by participating in the Room In the Inn program (RITI). RITI hosts 12 homeless neighbors from Charlotte every Friday night from January to March.

Free Clinic Of Our Towns (FCOOT)

Free Clinic of Our Towns (FCOOT) provides healthcare services to uninsured patients in the Davidson community. Members of the organization volunteer at the clinic on Thursday evenings and throughout the week to help with other projects.

Global Brigades

As a chapter of the international nonprofit organization, Global Brigades works with licensed medical professionals and community health workers to provide comprehensive health services in rural communities with limited access to healthcare. Their current focus is Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.

Habitat for Humanity

In conjunction with other local Habitat chapters, this chapter participates in local building opportunities, raising awareness about and advocating for housing issues, and fundraising to build more houses both locally and globally. No building experience necessary.

Half the Sky

As part of an international movement, this chapter of Half the Sky strives to raise awareness of women's oppression. Women's issues such as economic limitations, maternal health, education, gender-based violence, forced prostitution, and sex trafficking are both discussed in meetings/forums and addressed via fundraising events. In this way, Half the Sky works to bring both advocacy and activism to campus.

Hinds' Feet Farm

Volunteers work with brain trauma patients on various rehabilitation exercises including arts and crafts, Nintendo Wii, horseback riding and board games. Volunteers can also work outside on a number of maintenance chores. They may work more intimately with the members in the Day Program by joining the Physically Fit program, or help out with the Checkered Ball, an annual black tie fundraiser.

International Justice Mission (Davidson College Chapter)

As a chapter of the anti-trafficking organization, International Justice Mission (IJM), our purpose is to provide the Davidson community (both on and off campus) with an opportunity to be actively involved in the campaign against modern slavery. We seek to raise awareness of modern slavery and provide an opportunity to be actively involved in combating forms of international oppression through fundraising events, which will directly benefit IJM's justice and advocacy initiatives.

Mooresville High School Tutoring

Volunteers tutor high school students in math, foreign languages, science, and English. Transportation is provided twice a week, but commitment is flexible.

Operation Smile Train

An international organization that provides free surgeries for children with cleft lips and palates across the globe. It is only $240 to change a child's life forever. Operation Smile spreads awareness of international health issues, holds fundraisers and mentors high school students.


organicAura is a public health service organization that provides physical, emotional, spiritual, and financial wellness through active community empowerment programs with a primary focus on underrepresented populations.

Quest Scholars

Quest is a national network of high achieving, low income students. The network raises awareness about socioeconomic diversity on campus and the growing presence of low income students. Scholars and other campus community members will conceptualize and partake in community service as a way to remain active within the local community.  

SO College

Volunteers work to provide entertainment opportunities for mentally and physically disabled youth and adults in the Davidson and Charlotte areas. Such activities include Special Olympics, volunteering at hospitals, and other events that promote a fun and exciting experience for participants.

Timmy Global Health

Davidson's chapter of Timmy Global Health promotes fundraising, advocacy and service to support the parent organization. Their mission is to expand access to healthcare and tackle today's most pressing global health challenges by sending medical teams to support the work of international partner organizations.

Women's Justice Initiative

Women's Health Justice Initiative works to educate peers on global health issues and fundraise for organizations that work to alleviate those issues.

Young Elites

Students work in partnership with the Young Elites organization to provide mentoring and workshops for high school students to develop leadership, practical, and physical skills


YouthMAP pairs students with children from Barium Springs. Over the course of three months, YouthMAP holds weekly sessions that involve conducting photo shoots, editing photographs, and developing a greater understanding of marketing through experiential learning.
