Rhodes Scholarships
The Rhodes Scholarships are the oldest and one of the most celebrated international fellowship awards in the world. Rhodes Scholars are chosen not only for their outstanding scholarly achievements, but also for their character, commitment to others and to the common good and for their potential for leadership in whatever domains their careers may lead.
The Rhodes Trust provides full financial support for Rhodes Scholars to pursue a degree or degrees at the University of Oxford. Rhodes Scholarships are normally held for two years, the duration of most masters’ degrees and bachelors’ degrees for those who already have another bachelor’s degree, or for three years, the duration of many doctorates.
Eligibility
Rhodes Scholars are chosen not only for their outstanding scholarly achievements, but for their character, commitment to others and to the common good, and for their potential for leadership in whatever domains their careers may lead.
- Class year: Graduating seniors and alumni who are at least 18 and have not reached their 24th birthday on October 1 of the application year
- Citizenship: Citizens of the United States, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., or a U.S. resident with DACA status on April 15 in the year of application (for U.S. Rhodes Scholarships)
- GPA: Minimum 3.7
Other eligibility guidelines:
- Eligible to apply through one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, or one of the U.S. territories: either in the state or territory where the applicant was legally resident on April 15 in the year of application, or where the applicant will have received at least two years of college training and a bachelor’s degree before October 1 in the year following election.
*Please note these are the general eligibility requirements for U.S. Rhodes applicants. Candidates may be eligible in other Rhodes constituencies. Candidates who do not meet the eligibility criteria for any constituency may be able to apply for inter-jurisdictional consideration or for one of the Global Rhodes Scholarships.
Applying & Guidance
Candidates for the Rhodes Scholarship in the U.S. jurisdiction must be endorsed by Davidson College. To be considered for endorsement, follow the instructions for submitting an application to Davidson's endorsement committee outlined in the Rhodes Scholarship Application Toolkit (Davidson login required).
