Emily Drew James K. Batten Professor of English

I'm the James K. Batten Professor of English and teach television news producing, journalism, and media literacy. Since graduating from Davidson in 2004, I've worked as a journalist at print and television news outlets including The Taipei Times, China Central Television, Al Jazeera America, NBC News & MSNBC, VICE News, and ABC News.

I have three Emmy Awards: for investigating the Flint water crisis, for covering the George Floyd protests, and for delivering the "Best Overall Newscast" in 2020. 

My field producing work has included domestic and overseas terrorist attacks, mass shootings, natural disasters, and presidential campaigns. I've also worked as a breaking news control room producer, script writer and editor, booking producer, and on-air reporter.

I grew up on a farm in Sandy Lake, Pennsylvania, and have lived in Taiwan, Denmark, the Netherlands, the U.K., Cleveland, Washington D.C., and New York City.
