Please join exhibiting artists Pamela Phatsimo Sunstrum and Scott Hazard for an opening reception on Thursday, Sept. 12 from 6:30–8:30 p.m in the atrium of the Belk Visual Arts Center. There is no charge to attend the reception or exhibits, which will be on display in the Van Every Gallery and Smith Galleries of the Belk Visual Arts Center through October 11.
Pamela Phatsimo Sunstrum (born in Botswana, currently resides in South Africa) was invited to spend three weeks at Davidson College as an artist-in-residence. Sunstrum's site-specific exhibition, ab initio, will open in the Van Every Gallery on September 12. The exhibition is comprised of wall drawings and installations that Sunstrum created on-site, as well as works on paper and animations the artist completed in her studio in South Africa.
Cultivations, an exhibition of Scott Hazard's recent text-based work, opened on August 26 in the Smith Gallery. Hazard - an artist based in Raleigh, NC - uses text, printed or stamped on multiple layers of paper and contained within a structured framework. Hazard and will present a short artist talk in the Smith Gallery at 7:30 p.m on September 12. Cultivations runs in the Smith Gallery through October 11.
Sunstrum’s Residency and the ab initio exhibition are made possible through the support of Davidson College Bacca Foundation Visiting Lecture and Artist Program. The September 12 opening reception is sponsored by Davidson College Friends of the Arts.
