Stuart Dybek, one of America’s most famous short-story writers, and among this country’s finest poets, will deliver the Hall & Lloyd reading on awards night. The Poetry Foundation describes Dybek’s collections of poetry as “the work of a master prose stylist, with careful imagery, cool observation, and social witness.” His short story, We Didn’t is one if the finest ever written, and his critics have ranked his fiction collections—I Sailed with Magellan (2003), The Coast of Chicago (1990) and Childhood and Other Neighborhoods (1980)-- alongside the works of Sherwood Anderson and Ernest Hemingway. The event is free. No tickets are needed. Sponsored by the Dept. of English and the Public Lectures Committee.
