As part of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (20 USC § 1092(f)), otherwise known as the Clery Act, colleges are required to publish annual security reports.

The Clery Act encourages the reporting and collection of accurate campus crime statistics to promote crime awareness and enhance campus safety.

Campus police collect information about incidents that occur on campus, in public areas bordering campus, and in certain non-campus buildings owned or controlled by the college, and compile the data for the annual report distributed each fall.

Designated Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) are obligated to report incidents reported to them to campus police using the crime statistic report form as required by the Clery Act.

Annual Crime Reports

Public Safety maintains a close relationship with the Davidson police department to ensure that it is notified of any crime report that is made directly to them. Public Safety will disclose any crime report made directly to any local law enforcement agency by a member of the campus community. The department at the Lake Campus maintains the same close relationship with the Iredell County Sheriff's Department to ensure that it is notified of any crime report that is made directly to them.

Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act

This statement provided in compliance with the Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act of 2000 and the Clery Act. The Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act of 2000 is a federal law that provides for the tracking of convicted sex offenders enrolled at, or employed at, institutions of higher education. The CSCPA is an amendment to the Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Act. The federal law requires state law enforcement agencies provide Davidson College with a list of registered sex offenders who have indicated they are enrolled, employed or carrying on a vocation at Davidson College.

A list of all registered sex offenders in our area is available at the N.C. Department of Public Safety. Davidson College is located in Mecklenburg County and the zip code is 28035. We also have a lake campus located in Iredell County.

The CSCPA further amends the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) to clarify that nothing in the Act can prohibit an educational institution from disclosing information provided to the institution concerning registered sex offenders.
