Davidson Reads: Jack Jung and David Dennis ’08
The English Department is proud to present the 24th Annual Davidson Reads. Please join us for a reading by our Visiting Assistant Professor, Jack Jung, translator and poet, and author and journalist, David Dennis '08.
Jack Jung is a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where he was a Truman Capote Fellow. He was born in Seoul, South Korea, and immigrated to the United States. His translations of Korean poet Yi Sang’s poetry and prose are published in Yi Sang: Selected Works by Wave Books. His poetry has been published in journals including Nat.Brut and The Margins.
David Dennis, Jr. is a Davidson College alum (Class of 2008). His award-winning work has appeared in The Atlantic, The Washington Post, Atlanta magazine, HuffPost, Medium, and more. His book, The Movement Made Us (Harper), scheduled for May 2022, tells the story of his father, civil rights activist David Dennis Sr., a CORE field secretary in the 1960s and a member of the Freedom Riders. The Movement Made Us is short-listed for the J. Anthony Lukas Work-in-Progress Award co-administered by the Columbia Journalism School and the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard.
