Traditional Music of the Carolina Piedmont

This showcase will feature the music of various traditional Piedmont artists including string band musicians Wayne and Margaret Martin, fiddler and guitarist Ashley Carder, fiddler Junior Harris, and bassist and traditional dancer Vivian Pennington Hopkins. Throughout the evening, this coterie of veteran musicians will be performing tunes and songs from the ballad, string band, blues, and bluegrass traditions, weaving together the rich musical tapestry of the Carolina Heartland.

This concert is the culmination of a year-long fieldwork project by Scott Stegall '20, under the teaching of Bill Lawing, aimed at discovering and preserving traditional music in the central Carolina's. Bill Simpson, pictured above, was Scott's principal informant during his fieldwork.
