“(Im)mobility and Dispossession across the Sahara, Sahel and Mediterranean” . Lecture by Dr. Noureddine Jebnoun.

Prof. Jebnoun is a Tunisian scholar whose research focuses on cross-border movements, including migration politics, refugees, and internal displacement in the Sahara-Sahel region. 

En Route to Europe, We Burn or Die is his first film co-directed and co-produced with Jakob Plaschke, with animations by Aadhar Wasti. The documentary was filmed in Tunisia in 2024 and was selected for the 2025 Festival of Migrant Film Slovene Philanthropy in Slovenia, as well as featured at the MESA 42nd annual film festival. In this talk, Dr Jebnoun will provide an insightful look into the making of the documentary En Route to Europe, We Burn or Die, and then examine the broader dynamics of migration across the trans-region while pointing to the case of specific countries such as Tunisia and Morocco. The talk is in English.
