Pamela Sneed’s Tribute to Big Mama Thornton

Pamela Sneed is one of New York’s greatest poets; author of Funeral Diva and Imagine Being More Afraid of Freedom than Slavery, she has received awards from Lamdba Literary, Creative Capital, NYSCA, and many others. Coming of age in the wake of the AIDS crisis, Sneed is also a visual artist, a performer and cultural critic.

Merging stellar musical performances with storytelling and humor, her tribute to Big Mama Thornton sheds light on one of the most influential yet under-recognized voices in the history of Rock and Roll since the 1940s. Viva De Conchini, Bernice “Boom Boom” Brooks, Mara Joy Rosenbloom, and David A Barnes join her to interpret Thorton’s original songs as Hound Dog and Ball and Chain.
