Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar Event

Join Davidson College’s Phi Beta Kappa Chapter for this year’s Visiting Scholar Public Lecture, The Cosmopolitan Canopy: Race and Civility in Everyday Life featuring Dr. Elijah Anderson.

Stockholm Prize Laureate & Sterling Professor of Sociology and African American Studies at Yale University, Dr. Elijah Anderson is one of the nation’s leading urban ethnographers and cultural theorists. He will join us to discuss his pioneering research on the "cosmopolitan canopy." In this lecture, Dr. Anderson explores the vital existence of racially mixed public spaces where civility and comity prevail. These "canopies" serve as essential islands of racial tolerance within otherwise segregated urban landscapes, offering safe spaces where people of all backgrounds can practice the everyday art of civil society.

All members of the community are welcome.

This event is co-sponsored by the Davidson Sociology Department.
