Join the Davidson College and wider Davidson community for the dedication of With These Hands: A Memorial to the Enslaved and Exploited at the Davidson College Front Campus (Oak Row and Elm Row, next to Cunningham Theatre Center).
3:30 p.m. Musical Prelude | 4 p.m. Formal Ceremony
The sculpture With These Hands: A Memorial to the Enslaved and Exploited has emerged at the heart of the Davidson College campus. This powerful work is part of the college’s ongoing effort to confront a rarely spoken chapter of its history and to honor the lives of the enslaved individuals and laborers who were exploited on its grounds. The sculpture was created by renowned artist Hank Willis Thomas in collaboration with architectural firm Perkins&Will.
A dedication ceremony Oct. 23 will include remarks by the artist, President Doug Hicks ’90, author and poet Clint Smith ’10 and more.
