Author Jack Livings Wins Rome Prize Fellowship

The American Academy in Rome has named Jack Livings '96 a 2016-17 Rome Prize Winner.

Each year, the Rome Prize is awarded to about 30 emerging artists and scholars who represent the highest standard of excellence and who are in the early or middle stages of their working lives. Livings won the John Guare Writer's Fund Rome Prize, a gift of Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman that will support Livings for 11 months as he works on an untitled novel-in-progress.

Founded in 1894, the American Academy in Rome is a privately funded, nonprofit institution and one of the oldest American overseas centers for independent study and advanced research in the arts and humanities. Davidson College is one of the AAR's supporting member institutions.

Last June, Livings won the $25,000 PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize for Debut Fiction for "The Dog," his collection of stories set in China.
