Background

I am a Board-Certified Clinical Psychologist, and I have spent my entire 20-year career at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) working as a psychologist in various clinical, administrative, and training roles.

I received my B.S. in Psychology from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1998, my M.S. in Rehabilitation and Clinical Counseling from East Carolina University in 2001, and my PhD in Counseling Psychology from Michigan State University in 2007. I was fortunate to do my doctoral clinical training in the VA, which led to my first VA psychologist position following graduation.

Prior to pursuing my doctorate and joining the VA system, I worked primarily in a community mental health setting in eastern North Carolina as a Substance Abuse Counselor serving individuals with chronic mental illness and substance use disorders.

Throughout my career, my passion for teaching has led me to being an instructor or adjunct faculty member at a community college and several universities. I began teaching when I was a doctoral student at Michigan State University in 2002 and also taught at the local community college in Lansing, Michigan, during this time. While working at the VA, I have been an adjunct faculty member at the Wake Forest School of Medicine presenting on various topics, such as the Treatment of PTSD, to medical students and residents. Most recently, I have taught undergraduate courses (Introductory Psychology, Health Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Brain Behavior and Mental Processes) at UNC-Charlotte since 2008.

I am looking forward to teaching at Davidson and sharing my passion for the diagnosis and treatment of clinical disorders, particularly PTSD, with students.  I live in Davidson with my husband, three children, and two dogs. I enjoy playing tennis, reading, and recently started taking piano lessons to work the creative side of my brain.
