Lizely Lopez-Cordero

I am a native of Puerto Rico and completed my B.A at the University of Puerto Rico in Cayey. After serving as an English teacher in Fort Worth's (TX) inner city schools, I completed my M.A in Spanish at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. I have also completed graduate courses at the University of Kentucky and expect to earn my doctoral degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in Spring of 2027. 

My research interests include Caribbean Studies, Latin American and Spanish cinema, Visual Studies and Technoculture. My current research project explores the use of sound and digital technology in the deconstruction of Puerto Rican National discourse.

Prior to arriving at Davidson, I have directed experiential learning projects, learning living communities, and contributed in curriculum development committees. As part of my commitment to public service, I strive to actively participate in the creation of spaces for community and cultural engagement in the campuses where I have served as faculty and community member. 

As a humanist who values the importance of the arts, I am also actively involved in Greensboro's Flamenco Dance Program and Company and in North Carolina's Folk Fest.
