Background
I earned an M.S. and Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from the University of Michigan, an M.A. in Educational Psychology from New York University, and a B.S. in Psychology from Howard University.
Through my research, I examine the messages individuals receive about sex and sexuality, and the ways in which those messages inform individuals’ sense of themselves as sexual beings, their sexual attitudes, and their sexual behaviors. I also consider the role of race and gender in this process. As part of this research, I have examined the link between the messages about homosexuality and individuals’ attitudes toward lesbians and gays. Most recently, I have focused on issues related to women’s sexual development.
Prior to joining the Davidson community, I was an Associate Professor at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, part of the City University of New York. Before working in higher education, I was an elementary educator (1st - 4th grade) in Washington, D.C. and New York City.
