Dr. Eric M. Nicholson, Research Chemist at the USDA-Agricultural Research Service at the National Animal Disease Center presents "Using Protein Folding to Understand Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies".
Dr. Nicholson will be discussing transmissible spongiform encephalopathies and how it is commonly found in a variety of mammals including humans, cattle, sheep, goats, elk, deer, moose, and reindeer. His research looks at this host encoded protein that has adopted an alternative conformation that is capable of causing and transmitting disease.
