LIterary Salon Ingeborg Bachmann and Paul Celan
Ingeborg Bachmann and Paul Celan remade German poetry and poetics in the decades after the Holocaust. Their work continues to resonate profoundly today. This semester's literary soirée features the Davidson College Chamber Singers under the direction of Professor Renata Berlin singing a stunning setting of Celan's "Psalm" by Jewish-German composer Felicitas Kukuck (1914-2001). Seminar students Mary Blackstock, Irakli Begiashvili, Ezra Smith, and Blaise DeLeon will present their work on Bachmann and Celan, discussing aspects of Bachmann's novel Malina, Celan's liturgical poems, and Celan's intertextual engagement with Rilke.
Presentations in English. Sparkling libations and German chocolates. Formal attire requested. Free and open to the public.
