Charlotte Observer: The Rev. Richard Boyce '77 is the new Dean of Union Presbyterian Seminary in Charlotte

"As if his previous jobs as pulpit pastor, mayor of Belmont and seminary professor weren't challenging enough, now his mission is to run a seminary and help ignite the declining mainstream church one new pastor at a time," writes Ken Garfield.

"A third-generation preacher, he was born in Charlotte and raised in Virginia, where his father was a pastor. A graduate of Davidson College and Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Va., Boyce pastored Bedford Presbyterian Church near Lynchburg, Va., before moving to Belmont to lead First Presbyterian from 1993 to 2003. He joined the seminary full-time in 2004, and was mayor of Belmont from 2005 to 2013."
