Huffington Post: Vincent Van Gogh May Have Hidden “The Last Supper” in One of His Most Famous Paintings
What do Vincent Van Gogh's "Café Terrace at Night" and Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper" have in common? According to Jared Baxter '93, more than meets the eye. Baxter, an independent researcher whose work focuses on Van Gogh, believes that the artist has inserted religious symbolism into many of his paintings and particularly "Café Terrace at Night." Baxter examined the sketch of the painting and found that all of the religious elements-a central figure (Jesus), a shadowed figure departing (Judas), lantern (halo) and cross in the background-were added after the initial sketch.
"You know when you're interpreting art, you've got to leave open the possibility that you're not correct ... there can never be 100 percent certainty," Baxter told the Huffington Post. "I think there's enough information and enough evidence to at least make a pretty good case."
