Huffington Post: Top Dozen ‘Badass’ Women Overlooked by History

When writer Taylor Pittman began researching a Women's History Month article on the top dozen overlooked "badass women" of history, he turned to Davidson College Babcock Professor of History Sally McMillen for suggestions. "It's important to shine a light on some women whose names you might not know -- but who also helped shape the future of our nation," Pittman wrote.

McMillen suggested he include Lucy Stone, a 19th century intellectual whose biography McMillen published in 2015. Stone's actions on behalf of her gender included founding the American Woman Suffrage Association in 1869, and welcoming black women into the fight for suffrage. McMillen published a book on Stone's "unapologetic life" in 2015.
