College Mourns the Loss of Student and SGA President Ben Callinder '16

Beloved student and SGA president Ben Callinder passed away early this morning after a long battle with cancer.

In a message to the campus community, Dean of Students Tom Shandley wrote, "No one will ever fully know the struggles that Ben endured to be here with us this semester and we are all incredibly blessed for this time. His undeniable courage and the steadfast support of his family and friends will leave an enduring legacy."

To give the college community a chance to join together to honor Ben, the Chaplain's Office held an informal gathering this afternoon at 5:15 p.m. in the Oasis, which is located in the Chaplain's Office suite on the top floor of the Alvarez College Union. This was not a formal service, but simply a chance to share thoughts about Ben and hold his family in our hearts.
