Variety: Craig Detweiler '85 Mentor of the Year

Craig Detweiler '85, professor of communication at Pepperdine University and creative director of the school's Institute for Entertainment, Media and Culture, has been named Variety's 2016 Mentor of the Year.

"Detweiler provides a path through what he calls ‘the angst that is endemic to the (entertainment) industry' by encouraging his students to view the industry from an entrepreneurial standpoint," Variety's Paul Gaita writes.

"I try to disrupt people's assumptions," Detweiler said, "and maybe force them to create out of their weakness, rather than their strengths."
