U.S. News & World Report: Susannah Wellford ’90 on Cultivating the ‘Old Girls Club’

In her work as founder and director of Running Start, an organization dedicated to inspiring young women and girls to political leadership, Susannah Wellford ’90 hears time and again that women perceive other women as among the biggest barriers to success.

In a piece for U.S. News and World Report, Wellford implores women to work together and cites women who run organizations with missions similar to that of her own as positive examples, offering encouragement and support for one another in a sphere dominated by men.

She writes, “…our greatest strength comes from putting our heads together to solve problems… as allies we are far more powerful than we would be in our individual silos, carefully guarding our ideas.”
