March 25, 2016: College Statement on 'Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act'

Operations at Davidson College, a private institution, are unaffected by the “Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act,” passed in March.

As a longtime advocate for inclusivity, access and equality, Davidson resolutely opposes any effort to exclude or discriminate against any person on the basis of gender or sexual orientation. We are committed to equality, access, and justice for all, and we wish to offer support to members of our LGBTQA community who may not feel safe and welcome in the state.

The following statement is from Davidson College Athletic Director Jim Murphy on the decision to relocate NCAA and ACC championship games in response to HB2 legislation:

"Davidson College has opposed the plainly discriminatory bill known as HB2 since the day it was hastily signed into law. The law harms many and protects no one.

"Likewise, Davidson College believes strongly in the educational value of athletics. We field 21 Division I teams, and over a quarter of our students are scholar athletes. In the name of fairness and inclusion–for students, fans and all persons–we support the NCAA's and the ACC's decision to move championship games out of North Carolina, and we stand firmly with those who seek genuine equal opportunity for all."
