Such Great Heights: Bimini Horstmann ’21 Heads to PanAmerican Games

Bouldering. Top roping. Lead climbing. The techniques vary, but the objective is the same: get to the top. For more than a decade, championship rock climber Bimini Horstmann '21 has worked tirelessly on her technique, racking up accolades at indoor and outdoor climbing venues all over the world. This week she travels to Montreal, Canada, for her third, and last, PanAmerican Games Youth Championship. Horstmann will compete with Team USA against the world's best in categories including sport, speed and bouldering.

"I wanted to compete in all three because they want the most well-rounded climbers at the Olympics," Horstmann said.

For the first time, in 2020, climbers will compete for gold in the Olympic Games. Tokyo, Japan, will host a package of new events recently approved by the IOC, including baseball/softball, karate, skateboarding, climbing and surfing.

Here, Horstmann talks about the sport she loves.
