President Quillen Joins Coalition of Higher Ed Presidents Focused on Immigration

Davidson College President Carol E. Quillen has joined the Presidents' Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration, a coalition of college and university officials that launched today to improve how colleges and universities handle immigration-related matters.

At first, the Alliance will focus on urging Congress to implement permanent legislation that will protect undocumented students, or DREAMers.

"The mission of Davidson College calls us to assist students in developing humane instincts. These values–compassion and moral courage among them–are vital to create a country that welcomes students from all backgrounds and gives them an opportunity to flourish," Quillen said. "I am honored to stand with my colleagues in our shared commitment to empathy, justice and openness."

The Presidents' Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration includes more than two dozen top officials from institutions across the country, ranging from flagship state universities to Ivy League and community colleges.

Quillen and Jane Fernandes of Guilford College are the first college presidents from North Carolina to join the coalition.
